Spectrum is a queer community app designed to support isolated, closeted, or at-risk people with the tools to manage their mental health, find resources and information and connect with the community.
Throughout Sydney’s lockdown, access to community spaces was restricted. As the lockdown eased, Spectrum needed to facilitate a safe return to LGBTQIA+ events and spaces for the most vulnerable, who are at risk of further isolation.
- A way to bring together and connect communities to bring Spectrum’s vision to life
- A way for at-risk people to understand the accessibility and guidelines around events
- A request from organisations to be able to promote their events to the queer community
- An opportunity for Spectrum to host their own events across Sydney
In response to the easing of social restrictions in Sydney, I was asked to deliver the design of the new events feature that would allow users to find and filter experiences.
- Test UX Copy and language for inclusivity and ensure that the intersection of people’s identities vs their sexualities is understood and respected
- Test low-fidelity wireframes with users to understand the impact of accessibility features and filters
- Ideate features through interviews, such as filters between in-person and online events and test them with users and events organisers.
- Write supporting requirements and documentation to support the handover from design to development.
Spectrum Events allows users the ability to search for, favourite, and filter events (by distance, price or date, as well as event categories such as Workplace/career, Sports & Fitness, Sexual Health, Mental Health, Social & Party and Crisis support) as well as providing clear venue information and recommendations.
- New onboarding flow that enables users to understand the different features of the app
- Migrated design files and UI kit from sketch to Figma to support the developer team with the product build.
- Data capture forms for Spectrum to build a database of LGBTQIA+ events within Sydney
